# 2923 Fairport Wins First Title Since 2014 After losses in the Championship games to Penfield (9-8) last season and Pittsford (9-5) two years ago, the Red Raiders were bent on getting their first Section Five Title since 2014. Fairport scored five goals in the second half while holding the Hilton offense scoreless to defeat the Cadets 9-4. Key players in the success were face-off midfielder Jake Knapp and sophomore midfielder Rob Crowley. Crowley finished with 4g on the night and Knapp finished at 8/13 at the face-off. Both were named to the All Tournament Team for Fairport. Knapp’s success was even more impressive based on Hilton face-off midfielder Shawn Doran’s season. Doran finished the season at 82% with 306 wins. Before tonight, he had never had less than 50% day at the faceoff. Doran, for his performance throughout the Tournament was also named to the All Tournament Team. |
# 2881 Canandaigua Comes from Behind Against Hilton Canandaigua came back in the last quarter in a 11-10 come from behind win against Hilton. The Braves trailed for the entire contest prior to their final goal with 5:24 left on the clock. The Cadets, who led by 3 early in the game, could not tie the game for the sixth time in the final minutes. The scoring for Hilton was spread out with six players scoring a single goal and the leading scorer (Ryan Butts) finished with 2g-2a. For the Braves, Mark Belles led with 4g-1a. Face-off midfielder Shawn Doran finished 18/25 for Hilton, with a team leading 11 ground balls. |
# 2854 Lots of Close Ones Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were several one-goal games today and some were unexpected wins. Fairport(6-1) needed overtime to defeat a scrappy Thomas(3-6) 8-7 and Penfield(4-5) used overtime to beat Victor(7-2) 7-6. Meanwhile Pittsford(5-4) was a 7-6 winner over Canandaigua(8-2). Spencerport(2-5) defeated Rush-Henrietta(5-4) with a scored of 9-7 and Hilton(6-2) took out Schroeder(4-4) 9-5. |
# 2848 Finally Some Close Games Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: After a number of days full of mismatches, a number of the six games played today were close ones. Penn Yan overcame a 7-3 defecit and scored six goals to force a tied with Canandaigua, who won in the first overtime period. Geneva played a close game with Greece, winning 10-6 after multiple late goals by Sam Miller. West Genesee was an 11-8 winner against Hilton and Pittsford lost an 8-7 game with G-M. Finally, Wayne was a 10-8 winner over Aquinas and, by the way, Victor posted a 17-2 win over Kettle Moraine (Wisconsin). |
# 1403 Week in Review: Week 7 It is hard to imagine, but we are entering the final week of regular season games. The last games will be played on Friday and the tournaments will begin on May 21st. Two hundred and forty-seven games have been played thus far. Sixty-four (of seventy-three out of Section games scheduled) have been played. Section five teams have won forty-five (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit continue at the top of their leagues. |

# 1391 Fairport over JD, Gananda over Wayne in OT Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: On a bright Saturday, there were fourteen games played. Seven were with out of Section teams and the local teams won six. Fairport was a 14-12 winner over Jamesville-DeWitt (Section 3). The Red Raiders led 10-6 at the half. Sophomore midfielder Klay Stuver led the offense with seven goals and sophomore goalie Tim Defendis recorded eighteen saves (60%). Fairport advances to 7-4 while JD drops top 10-2. |
# 1390 HFL Comes Back in Fourth Quarter for Win HFL and Hilton played a close game tonight with the Cougars winning 8-6. HFL opened up with the first goal less than one minute into play. Jonathan Roth scored with a single player drive down the left side to give the Cougars and early 1-0 lead. Two minutes later and Hilton responded. Justin Mosher drove at the cage and instead of taking a shot, he passed off to Jordan DePetres behind the cage. DePetres was already moving and came around the goal line to finish into the back of the net. |
# 1370 Irondequoit and Hilton Get Overtime Wins Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Jack Brennan scored the overtime goal to give Irondequoit a 12-11 win over HFL tonight. Hilton won an 8-7 overtime win when Justin Mosher scored on a feed from Jordan DePetres. Marcus Whitman won an 11-9 victory over Gates Chili and Midlakes had a 10-8 win overt Mynderse. |
# 1333 Fairport Wins in Overtime Fairport and Hilton played a back and forth game this afternoon. The Red Raiders led through most of the game; however, the Cadets took their first lead of the game with 7:13 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Red Raiders scored the final goal of regulation to send the game into overtime. Forty-five seconds into the first overtime period, Brennan Maloney scored off a feed from Spencer Bell to give the Red Raiders the win. |
